I was very excited to come into possession of a Canon EOS-1D Mark IV. It is a toy that I did not imagine would ever come my way… but I know that I am going to have to push myself harder, and get my head around some decent kit… so this new addition to my equipment was a complete joy to receive such encouragement.
I just needed a friend to practice on, and time was very kindly offered by fitness professional, Daniel Burke (above) Having taken a piece of music given to me to interpret by someone, I played about, and made a film where the ‘King of the Marionettes’ wielded his power, status and symbolism over spellbound and unquestioning puppets. Quite like some aspects of life.
At 6’3’’ with built up frame, Daniel was just perfect to cast as a King. I mean what a boy. He has little modelling experience but I loved his calm and clean energy on set and aside from this shoot, I managed to get some very nice, generic shots and I also filmed a fitness video for him, among other more artistic content and he reminded me so much of my very own Marc Singer that I have another idea – the concept gave birth to ( LOVER )
So, something I ticked off my list is working with an all bells and whistles camera, and filming a hunk in front of it was a perk of having no pressure on me to produce something amazing and Daniel beats a landscape or a still life subject – but here, I found out just how technically inept I am. I say it kindly. The footage was filmed against green screen which was a bad choice, I haven’t mastered that at all… but I did enjoy the pre and post process and that is quite the point of the journey I guess – to grow, learn and evolve, and I always know how to pick up my ideas and move forward.
