Scrapbooking is a profound grounding technique for C-PTSD—a practice I highly recommend. Processing the artifacts of your decades alive (the journals, photographs, letters, notes, and keepsakes) provides an avenue to safely sift through the kaleidoscopic sands of time. When we immerse ourselves in a past that often only makes sense to a survivor in retrospect, we can finally bring a level of peace to our present circumstances and to all the Technicolor that trauma paints onto our soul. Ultimately, documenting our history through collage and collation is a powerful way to re-frame our life experiences, helping us break free from harmful physiological cycles and reclaim our narrative. Think of everyone you have ever known, and everyone you haven’t. Think of them as five-year-olds. That is who I work so hard to save—the survivors who should never have had their innocence IV’d into a predator’s wiles. The cutting room floor is where this reality lies; the undeniable truth beneath my art. I made this for Baby Dave, Baby Daph, Baby Stu, and Baby Everyone. I am me. We, are you!
